About This Place

Nestled in the heart of Branford, CT, GW Carsons is a standout American bar & grill that masterfully blends a relaxed, friendly atmosphere with an impressive menu brimming with bold flavors and creative twists on classic comfort foods. Whether you're stopping by for a casual night out or a hearty meal with friends, this vibrant spot delivers a memorable dining experience that feels both familiar and delightfully surprising.

The cuisine at GW Carsons is rooted in robust, satisfying American classics enhanced with a contemporary flair. Expect to find mouth-watering highlights like the Flame Broiler Burger—a smoky, juicy masterpiece served on a soft brioche bun—and the Western Burger, loaded with crispy onion rings, cheddar, bacon, and tangy barbecue sauce for an irresistible combination of textures and flavors. For those seeking something unique, the Chipotle Chicken & Waffles offers a sweet and spicy dance on the palate, perfectly balancing tender, smoky chicken with golden, crisp waffles and a hint of chipotle heat.

Their starters are no less impressive; the housemade chili topped generously with red onion and melted cheese is hearty and comforting, while the Nachos, layered with black beans, jalapeños, pico de gallo, and melted cheese, beckon for sharing. The Chicken Wings with Sweet Thai Sauce deliver a perfect harmony of sweet and spicy, proving that bar food can be exciting and nuanced. And don’t miss the cozy indulgence of Cinnamon Apple Martini, which refreshes and warms in equal measure.

Pasta, sandwiches, and wraps abound with variety and heartiness: the Carson Chicken Wrap combines crispy buttermilk chicken or grilled breast, smoky Applewood bacon, ripe avocado, and chipotle aioli rolled in a warm flour wrap—a delightful texture and flavor explosion. The Philly Cheesesteak is frequently praised, flaunting tender sautéed mushrooms, caramelized onions, and melted American cheese that transport you straight to classic steakhouse indulgence without the steep price tag.

What truly sets GW Carsons apart is the palpable passion that infuses every dish and detail. The food consistently surprises; whether it’s an off-menu gem like the chicken francie or house specialties like the bacon-wrapped meatloaf, each dish embodies rich, thoughtfully layered flavors. Customer testimonials underscore that devotion: Neal Guttenberg describes the cauliflower appetizer as “out of this world” and praises the chicken as wonderfully tender. Tyler Hoss lauds the steak & cheese sandwich as “hands down one of the best on the shoreline,” emphasizing the friendly and attentive service provided by staff like Dominic.

The atmosphere complements the culinary offerings perfectly—a laid-back, welcoming space where guests feel right at home whether perched at the bar or seated for dinner. Happy Hour draws locals in for quality food and drinks without pretension, and Melissa Cardosi’s praise of the “huge portions” and fast, helpful service highlights the down-to-earth vibe that keeps patrons returning. Sharie’s experience at the bar, where bartender Alyssa recommended the flame broiled burger, echoes the warmth and attentiveness that defines the GW Carsons experience.

In sum, GW Carsons is a gem for anyone craving authentic American classics served with vibrant flavors and genuine hospitality. From inventive combos like the Grilled Cheese Burger to traditional delights like the Soft Pretzel paired with local brews, every visit feels like a celebration of great food, good company, and the comfort of a truly inviting neighborhood bar & grill.

I've driven by this place for twenty years.I never came.I had always heard about the cauliflower appetizer. So I decided it was time to try.I ordered the cauliflower appetizer and chicken francie, which is not on the menu. But came out just wonderfully. The chicken was thick and delicious and not tough.Whatsoever, totally flavorful and the cauliflower is out of this world

Over the last few years, this has become one of my wife and I's favorite local spots Hands down one of the best steak & cheese sandwiches on the shoreline. Besides the Steak & Cheese, they have a pretty wide variety of options on the menu. Basically a nice steakhouse without the crazy price tag! Make sure you ask for Dominic as he always provides top notch service

Every time I’ve eaten at Lena’s, it has been spectacular. The food and presentation is not only delicious but also gorgeous. Thank you! We miss having you in New Haven but are glad we found you again in Branford.

We were shocked at how good the food was in comparison to the prices and such a laid back environment. The portions are huge, the service was helpful and fast. Star of the night though was the Blackberry Punch. Such an amazing cocktail and a perfect welcome to the spring weather! Also don't sleep on the chicken tenders - seriously and I'm not even a tender kind of gal!

We sat at the bar to enjoy Happy Hour and was very pleasantly surprised by the food. Our lovely bartender Alyssa suggested the flame broiled burger and it was great. Plenty of room to sit, descent Happy Hour specials and a value on the regular menu will keep us coming back. If you haven't been in a while it's time to go back.
